How it actually handles this
Course scope retrieves before it answers
Asking across a whole course does a retrieval step first — it finds the most relevant excerpts from your material and answers from those, rather than trying to hold an entire semester in its head at once. This is why course scope costs more to run than lecture scope, and why it is a paid feature.
One message allowance, not two prices
Course-scope questions genuinely cost more to serve than lecture-scope ones, but both count the same against your allowance. Two prices for asking a question is a rule you would have to learn before you could predict your own usage, so there is one number instead: 30 messages a month on free, 600 on Student, 3,000 on Scholar.
Never across your whole account
There is no mode that searches everything you have ever uploaded. Scope is one lecture or one course, deliberately — a tutor answering a pharmacology question with something from your economics notes is worse than one that says it does not know.
What it doesn’t do
Worth knowing before you spend an evening on it.
- It only knows what you have given it. Ask about something your lecturer never covered and it has nothing to work from — that is the trade-off for answers that match your course.
- It cannot search across all your courses at once, by design.
- It can still be wrong. It is a study aid for material you can go and check, not an authority — and the checking is the point.
- There is no voice conversation; the tutor is text.
- Free-plan questions are limited to one lecture at a time. Asking across a whole course needs Student or Scholar.
